In the first annual LEGO derby held by the Girl Scouts of the Desert South West, race cars went head to head in the ultimate test of speed and agility. The event is meant to show girls that STEM can be fun and creative. Girls from kindergarten to high school entered their unique takes on a LEGO race car and were put to the test during a Facebook Live event held on June 20, 2020. Although there were no girls allowed at the race, families tuned in to cheer on their creations.
LEGO trefoil trophies were awarded to the top two girls in each girl scout level as well as an overall winner with the fastest speed. After back-to-back races, the fastest car was timed at 2.623 seconds and the Daisy who created the car, ‘Paloma’ was awarded the Girl Scout LEGO Derby Grand Champion! The event will be available to view through the Girl Scouts of the Desert South West Facebook for girls to view.
