Summer! Don’t miss El Paso's biggest in-person, learning and
networking opportunity designed exclusively for volunteers like you in
mind.
Keeping your troop engaged over the summer is
part of a succesful troop. Luckily, there is so much to do as at troop
over the summer, such as working on the Highest Awards, traveling, and
venturing outdoors. This PEARLS will have both indoor classrooms and
outdoor workshops taking place at the Rio Bosque Wetlands Parque
nearby. Join us for a half-day of workshops and learn how your troop
can make this summer a Girl Scout Summer!

GIRL SCOUTS
Flags "To serve God
and my country" are part of our Girl Scout Promise. Girl Scouting
has a rich history of patriotism. Do you want to your troop to learn
proper flag etiquette? Interested in doing a flag retirement ceremony
or starting your own Color Guard? Join us for this session to learn
more.
Ceremonies Girl Scouting has many rich
traditions, including ceremonies that mark milestones in a Girl Scouts
life. When older women are asked about their Girl Scout memories, they
often look back at their Investiture, Court of Awards or Bridging
ceremonies with fondness. Learn how to make these memories as we
review ceremonies with a little fun roleplay.
Troop
Financials Part of being a successful troop is being good stewards of
the troops' money. Part of this process includes budgeting and
submitting financial reports to council by June 30th. Learn about what
this entails and how to submit your report correctly. This is your
time to ask any related questions and discover some tips, tricks, and
best practices to make this a smooth process year after year.
Troop Trips & Travel The summer months are a time to
venture out with your Girl Scouts! Nothing makes lasting memories like
discovering a new place together as a troop. Learn the rules,
policies, and processes to take your troop on a trip or travel,
including day trips, overnight trips, or extended trips. Following our
progression model, receive suggestions on local trips for your troop.
*It is recommended you take Basic Trip Travel Training in gsLearn
prior to this course. *
Highest Awards The summer
is a great time for your Girl Scouts to learn and work on their
Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards. These awards are the pinnacle of the
Girl Scout Leadership Experience. We will review them and the steps
necessary to guide your girls to Bronze, Silver, and Gold
success.
Religious Recognitions Discover the My
Promise, My Faith pin available for all Girl Scouts to earn which
allows girls to further strengthen their connection between their
faith and Girl Scouts. Learn about how each religious organization
also develops and administers its own supplemental program and award
such as P.R.A.Y. The summer is a great time to work on these as a
troop.
Summer Program Opportunities and Freebies
Keep your Girl Scout troop engaged over the summer! Discover different
Girl Scout national programs that you can do with your troop over the
summer months. Explore the Girl Scout Tree Promise, Ready. Resilient.
Strong. program, Love the Outdoors Challenge and many others,
including council-specific patch and challenge programs. We will also
learn about free programs and resources for your troop. From patch
programs to mailed resources to postcard to space, there is lots for
your troop to do for FREE!
10 Tech Troop Tips Learn
to use the latest technology tools to help you manage your troop
including shared documents, photo storage site, online calendars,
mobile apps and social media like Facebook, Instagram and more. We
will also go over the Volunteer Toolkit, gsLearn and MYGS.
For New Leaders Only If you are in your first year of
being a Troop Leader- Welcome! This workshop is just for you. We want
to hear from you. Discover our list of 10 Survival Tips for a
Successful Troop. Learn how to navigate the most common challenges in
leading a troop. Touch on how to build parent engagement in a
supportive way, develop a troop team, enable girl-led activities, and
build a fun and varied yearly calendar.
Make the
World a Better Place Girl Scouts are known for giving back to their
community. Discover the difference between community service and take
action. Explore many local organizations and causes that your troop
can help. Take action by tracking their hours as they earn The
President's Volunteer Service Award (PVSA).
CRAFTING FUN
Shrinky Dink Fun! Ever heard of
Shrinky Dink? Whether you have or not, join us in this class as we use
it to create some custom items that will inspire your own troop’s
creativity. Witness the power of plastics and their properties as we
shrink and play.
Recycling DIVAS Girl Scouting is
all about “using our resources wisely”. Discover ways to up cycle
common household items. Join us and learn how to use plastic bottles
to make bird feeders, empty pill bottles to make a fire starter, and
an old CD into a piece of art. All would be great for your troop
meeting or craft booth.
Kapers! Never heard of
Kapers? Then this class is for you. Come learn about the long-standing
use, purpose and benefits of using Kapers with your troop including
camp Kapers. Make some of your own to take with you for your next
meeting.
Let’s Make S.W.A.P.S! This workshop is
geared toward new leaders and S.W.A.P lovers. Learn all about swaps,
create a few different ones, as well as a great way to display
them.
Preserving Memories Learn the basics of
scrapbooking in this fun hands-on class. Learn ways to use
scrapbooking with Girl Scouts. Be sure to bring 6-8 Girl Scout related
photos to use.
OUTDOORS - these
workshops will take place at the Rio Bosque Wetland Park, 10716
Socorro Rd, El Paso, TX 79927. A 5-10 minute drive from Western
Tech.
Geocaching Geocaching is your troop's chance
to be part global explorer, part detective. You'll search for treasure
chests, called "geocaches," using a device called a GPS
receiver or app to find each chest's secret hiding place. Get ready
for a thrilling adventure!
No Cook Food The summer
is hot at Girl Scouts of the Desert Southwest! Learn some easy meals
and snacks that you can do for your troop meetings or short outings
without a stove or grill. Take away some no-cook food recipes.
Hiking 101 Learn what you need to know to take your girls
on simple, easy hikes near you. From safety to preparedness to ideas
on where to go, this is a great class for those thinking of going
hiking over the summer.
