Volunteer with Girl Scouts and help girls find what’s within.

Be part of the moments that spark confidence, courage, and joy—sign up and make a difference today!

Behind every girl who discovers her strength is a volunteer who shows up, cheers her on, and believes in her. You already have what it takes to inspire girls to explore, grow, and lead. Along the way, you’ll build your own confidence, strengthen your leadership skills, and connect with a supportive community that shares your passion.

  • Volunteer as a troop leader: Guide a group of Girl Scouts by creating a fun, safe space. We’ll help you get started with easy-to-use tools like the Girl Scout Experience Box and ready-made Troop Year Plans so you can focus on fun, growth, and connection.

  • Be a supportive adult volunteer: Help girls thrive by assisting with meetings, activities, or special events, no matter your schedule or experience.

  • Get involved on your terms. Choose a role that fits your time and interests—from leading a troop to lending a hand behind the scenes.

No previous experience is required to support girls as they build confidence, skills, and lifelong friendships through the Girl Scout experience. Your local Girl Scout Council can help get you started.

Sign up to be a volunteer today.

Ways to Volunteer

Be the troop leader that supports her every week—the one that watches her smile get bigger as she grows more confident. Mentor a Girl Scout Cookie Professional during cookie season so she can earn enough to reach the goals she and her troop set. Or work with other adults to provide the kind of behind-the-scenes support that makes it possible for her to make amazing new memories at Girl Scouts.

Whether you can give a few hours, a few weeks, or a few months, volunteering with Girl Scouts is flexible and fun.

Service Unit Team Volunteers toggle arrow

Service Unit Team volunteers mentor troop volunteers as they work with Girl Scouts to create memories they will never forget. These key administrative volunteers are leaders in the Girl Scout Movement who channel their resources, wisdom, and passion to bring the Girl Scout experience to adults and girls in their service units and the community.

All Service Unit Positions are for a three-year term. Service Unit Managers may not serve consecutive terms.

Service Unit Manager supports Girl Scouts in a designated community by coordinating and overseeing the work of the Service Unit Team. This is accomplished by appointing team members and developing a plan for the service unit that encompasses recruitment, retention, effective, consistent communication, and provides a welcoming environment.

Service Unit Treasurer works with the Service Unit Team to oversee the service unit bank account, including oversight of the financial records, financial reporting, and acts as a co-signer on the account. The Service Unit Treasurer also ensures troop leaders abide by all council and GSUSA financial policies.

Service Unit Secretary/Communications facilitates effective communication within service unit members and coordinates with GSDSW to manage representative media messaging and efficient two-way dissemination of council/service unit communication.

Service Unit Events Coordinator cultivates a variety of girl experiences for Girl Scouts in the Service Unit, founded on the four program pillars - STEM, Outdoors, Life Skills, and Entrepreneurship.

Service Unit Recruiter is responsible for year-round recruitment of new girls and adults into the Service Unit. They coordinate recruitment opportunities for the service unit and help with implementing them as needed to ensure the service unit meets its membership goals.

Service Unit Trainer serves as a mentor to onboard, train, and continually support volunteer members of the Service Unit with the up-to-date council and GSUSA training requirements and content delivery. The SU Trainer may also be referred to as a Service Unit Consultant and/or Mentor.

Please see our Product webpage for information on product-related Service Unit positions.

There may be other more specialized Service Unit Positions available.

The Girl Scout membership year runs from October 1, 2026, to September 30, 2027. Annual membership dues are $65 for girl members and $30 for adult members. Additional local fees and discounts may apply. Financial aid may be available. Girl Scout memberships must be renewed annually.
